In line with its community engagement and outreach initiatives, the Africa Centre of Excellence in Future Energies and Electrochemical Systems (ACE-FUELS) organized a one-day workshop on Energy Efficiency and Conservation on January 26, 2025, in partnership with the Unity Support Group, a Community Based Organization comprising illustrious sons and daughters of Owerri West LGA, which hosts the Federal University of Technology Owerri. The group provides financial and other empowerment support for indigent women and youths in the community.

The event brought together community leaders and members to discuss practical ways to optimize energy use and promote sustainable practices. Experts from ACE-FUELS provided insights into modern energy conservation techniques, emphasizing the importance of reducing energy waste and adopting cost-effective solutions.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Ikechukwu I. Ayogu (ACE-FUELS Webinars Coordinator) highlighted the significance of energy efficiency in community development. He also stressed the need to adopt renewable energy sources, particularly solar energy, and to prioritize energy-saving appliances over conventional ones. Furthermore, he called for collaboration in assessing the energy demand of the community, noting that such an initiative would help attract impactful renewable energy projects tailored to the community’s needs.

The workshop reinforced ACE-FUELS’ commitment to engaging with local communities and fostering a culture of energy responsibility. Participants expressed appreciation for the initiative and called for more collaborative efforts to drive sustainable energy adoption at the grassroots level.
