The Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research, Development & Innovation and Centre Leader of the Africa Centre of Excellence in Future Energies and Electrochemical Systems (ACE-FUELS), Federal University of Technology Owerri, Prof. Emeka E. Oguzie, participated in the Global AI Summit on Africa, held in Kigali, Rwanda, from April 3 to 4, 2025.
The high-level summit, themed “Unlocking Africa’s Potential Through Responsible AI”, brought together policymakers, academic leaders, technology innovators, and development partners to deliberate on the transformative role of artificial intelligence in Africa’s socio-economic development. The event featured keynote sessions, expert panels, and exhibitions focused on AI applications across key sectors such as energy, healthcare, agriculture, education, and governance.
Prof. Oguzie’s presence at the summit highlights ACE-FUELS’ strategic engagement with emerging technologies that align with its mission of advancing research and innovation in sustainable energy and electrochemical systems. His participation also reflects the Centre’s expanding regional footprint and its dedication to interdisciplinary collaboration that leverages digital technologies to solve Africa’s most pressing development challenges.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Prof. Oguzie emphasized the importance of incorporating AI into scientific research and development frameworks across Africa’s higher education institutions. “Artificial intelligence is reshaping the global research and innovation landscape. Centres of Excellence like ACE-FUELS must embrace these digital tools to accelerate the discovery and deployment of sustainable energy solutions tailored to Africa’s unique needs,” he noted.
