Engr. Dr. Nnaemeka Ohia is the Digital Content Coordinator at ACE-FUELS and an Associate Professor (Reader) in the Department of Petroleum Engineering, Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). He Joined the department as an experienced hire in 2005. Since then, Dr. Ohia has progressed steadily to his current position at FUTO.
He obtained his Doctorate degree in July, 2012 in Petroleum Engineering from FUTO under the supervision of Prof Obah (Principal Supervisor @ FUTO), Prof Godwin Chukwu @ UAF – University of Alaska at Fairbanks and Late Dr. Aguta, also at FUTO as co-supervisors. He had previously received his M.Eng. degree in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Port Hardcourt, Choba under the supervision of late Prof Chi Ikoku and Prof. Onyekonwu.
Dr. Ohia has also gained valuable “hands-on” industry experience while deploying state-of-the art technologies over the years, working and consulting with local and international energy companies such as Shell, Total, Tecon, Chevron, Ghana Petroleum Production Company (GNPC), Saltpond-Ghana, Eni Congo etc.
Dr. Ohia is also a pioneer faculty and management staff member at ACEFUELS (African Center of Excellence in Future Energies & Electrochemical Systems) – FUTO. As a passionate e-learning evangelist, Dr. Ohia led the design and development of an online (E-learning) system known as OYLex© (www.oylex.co) in Dec. 2017. Oylex© is a digital education platform for academic and workplace learning with key focus on the energy sector to enhance student’s learning experience. OYLex© is currently in use at the department of Petroleum Engineering, School of Environmental Studies (SOES), & ACEFUELS. This online learning platform is designed to be interactive, self-paced and flexible, providing opportunities to improve learners’ performance and experience not only in FUTO, but across the Nigerian energy Industry and Academia.
Dr. Ohia understands what truly drives performance as a trained technical coach and has received various awards and certification locally and internationally. He has authored and co-authored over 70 journal papers and technical publications. A bonified and active member of COREN, NSE and SPE, Dr. Ohia’s key research interests are in; Well Engineering Design and Construction (completion and well intervention, workover, etc.), Vertical Lift Performance optimization, Corrosion Technology, Environmental Protection, Future & Clean Energy Systems.
