Position: Senior Laboratory Technicians (2 Positions)

PROJECT:REACH-PSM (Resilient Renewable Energy Access Through Community-Driven Holistic Development in Perovskite Solar Module Manufacturing)
LOCATION:Africa Centre of Excellence in Future Energies and Electrochemical Systems (ACE-FUELS), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Nigeria
Employment Type: Full-time or Part-time Contract
DURATIONThis is a one-year fixed-term contract, renewable for an additional year based on satisfactory performance evaluation and project needs. The maximum possible engagement duration is two years.

About the Project

Funded by the UKRI Ayrton Challenge Fund, REACH-PSM (Resilient Renewable Energy Access Through Community-Driven Perovskite Solar Manufacturing) is pioneering Africa’s first full-scale demonstration of next-generation solar technology by establishing state-of-the-art printed perovskite solar module production at ACE-FUELS. This groundbreaking initiative will develop scalable, low-cost perovskite solar cell (PSC) manufacturing to deliver sustainable energy solutions across the continent. We are now building a world-class manufacturing facility to position Africa at the forefront of solar innovation and seek exceptional technicians to help realize this transformative vision.

Job Description

We are recruiting two (2) highly motivated, skilled and experienced Senior Laboratory Technicians to join our team. The successful candidates will play a critical role in equipment operation, process optimization, and maintenance to ensure high-quality module production.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirements:

  • B.Sc./HND in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, Materials/Chemical Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, or related field
  • Minimum 3 years’ hands-on experience in a professional/commercial laboratory environment
  • Proven track record in laboratory coordination including:
    • Operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment
    • Inventory and consumables management
    • Implementation of quality control protocols
  • Experience with material characterization tools (SEM, XRD, profilometry)
  • Knowledge of cleanroom protocols and chemical safety
  • Previous work in renewable energy research or production environment
  • Demonstrated experience with industrial-scale production equipment and processes
  • Familiarity with ISO standards or equivalent quality management systems in laboratory settings
  • Strong mechanical/electrical troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills

Special consideration will be given to candidates with demonstrated expertise in thin-film fabrication (screen-printing, spin-coating, or slot-die coating) and photovoltaic device fabrication, particularly with perovskite, silicon, or organic solar cells.
