Africa Centre of Excellence in Future Energies and Electrochemical Systems (ACE- FUELS) joined Energy stakeholders at the Africa Climate Forum in Abuja, to dialogue on enhancing Africa’s efforts for sustainable energy financing. The global transition from fossil fuels to cleaner and more sustainable sources of energy, such as renewables; solar, wind, hydro, nuclear power and improved energy efficiency have become an urgent need. However, the energy transition process requires that certain issues be addressed for its success.
African Stakeholders have identified that financing plays a huge role in achieving this feat. Financing the energy transition for sustainable progress is crucial for addressing climate change and achieving a more sustainable future. It is against this backdrop and financial need that the Global Centre for Law, Business and Economy, organized a two- day event on “Powering the Future: Financing Energy Transition for Sustainable Development.” Held on October 10 to 11, 2023 in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria. ACE-FUELS delegation to the Africa Climate Forum included the Centre Leader Prof. Emeka E. Oguzie, Dr. C. O. Akalezi and Dr. Emeka Nwankwo. Prof. Oguzie who made a keynote presentation, observed that the critical role of gas in Nigeria’s energy transition plan implies that the country must necessarily decarbonize its energy sector through carbon capture, utilization and storage technologies. Dr. Emeka Nwankwo spoke on financing gas as a transitional fuel, including financing mechanisms and institutions to unlock investments in renewable energy technologies, among others.
