Engr. Dr. Innocent O. Arukalam
Training & Education Coordinator
Dr. Innocent Okechi Arukalam is a lecturer at the Department of Polymer and Textile Engineering, Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO). He earned his B.Eng in Polymer and Textile Engineering (2007), MSc in Polymer Science and Engineering (2010) and PhD in Polymer Science (2014) from FUTO.
In his dissertation, he worked on the use of some selected polymeric materials as inhibitors for mild steel, aluminium and copper corrosion in acidic media. After the completion of his PhD, in 2015, Dr. Arukalam proceeded for a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship under the framework of the Chinese Academic of Sciences – President’s International Fellowship Initiative (CAS-PIFI) at the Institute of Metal Research (IMR), Shenyang, China. His research study centered on “functional coatings for anticorrosion and antifouling applications in marine environment”. On his return in 2017, Dr. Arukalam co-founded the Electrochemical Energy, Interfaces and Nanotechnology (EMINeNT) Research Consortium with his mentor, Prof. Emeka E. Oguzie, in 2018. The establishment of EMINeNT provided the springboard for the establishment of the Africa Center of Excellence in Future Energies and Electrochemical Systems (ACE-FUELS) at FUTO. Since then, Dr. Arukalam’s main research focus has been on “Functional Coatings for Energy savings and corrosion protection”.
He has published over 30 peer-reviewed research articles in highly rated international journals. He is a member of several professional organizations in his academic discipline, such as Council for the regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Polymer Institute of Nigeria (PIN), Institute of Polymer Engineers (IPE), Nigeria and Society of Plastics Engineers, USA. He is happily married to Mrs. Felicity M. Arukalam and they are blessed with three children (a son and two daughters).
